Welcome to the home page of the Swedish Society for Marine Sciences.
We are a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote cooperation between Swedish institutions and individuals who take a professional interest in the marine environment.
As part of promoting the goals of our society, we are responsible for organizing the Marine Science Conference. This annual event is open to both researchers and private interest groups and serves as a great platform to present work and have discussions on current marine issues.
We are very keen to involve young scientists and students to participate in the Marine Scientific conference, since we consider this to be an excellent opportunity to build their professional networks and encourage cooperation between institutions. To this end, we provide good opportunities for young professionals to apply for travel grants to attend the conference and in addition all society members receive a discount on the conference fee.
In line with our commitment to encourage students who have shown excellence in the marine field, we are also responsible for managing and distributing the Dyrssen Prize. This stipend constitutes a cash prize of 10 000 SEK and is rewarded every year to the author of the best M.Sc. thesis in the marine sciences.
